Nordbib workshop summary released

The Nordbib workshop held at Marienlyst in Elsinore late October drew a fantastic crowd to discuss Open Access issues over two hectic days. The summary of the various panels and work groups on the pertinent issues OA publishing and policy is now released on our site.

The second Nordbib workshop on Open Access was entitled "Research visibility - managing quality for better evaluation" and took place in Elsinore late October 2008. The workshop drew a crowd of 61 key figures from the five nordic countries as well as six experienced speakers. This set the stage for two days of work groups and panels witht the main question in mind: "What is the benefit for the researcher in OA publishing and how can evaluation and quality be open and fair in future scientific publishing?"

Key questions in the summary are:

  • Transparency and visibility of research – how to improve scholarly publishing in the Nordic countries?
  • Current Research Information Systems and Repositories - how can further systems development support Open Access & research?
  • Alternative financing models - what is the most economical model of scholarly communication that is still effective and efficient?
  • New performance-based funding formulas - what effects may and evaluation systems have on access and visibility in the scholarly communication system?
  • Nordic coordination – is there a need and can Nordic research get more visible?

The summary can be seen and downloaded here.
