Identifying and Explaining Digital Objects

The project was ultimately cancelled. The summary below is for information purposes.

Summary
The aim of the project is to improve information retrieval through promotion of standards and common practices, with special focus on scholarly communication and preservation of cultural materials.

  1. The project will produce a proposal for a revised standard documentation of Uniform Resource Names (URNs). The revision aims to address needs to modernize the present standard, and pave way for further standardization work.

  2. The project will develop and run a global URN resolution service that will make URN system easier to adopt internationally. Global resolution will facilitate support of URNs in different environments and enhance its international image.

  3. The project will provide Nordic guidelines for utilization of Open Archives Initiative Object Reuse and Exchange (OAI-ORE) set of methods and standards, as well as spread information about the initiative and its possibilities. A proof-of-concept level demonstration of using OAI-ORE in depositing digital materials will be provided.
