ScieCom Info - Nordic-Baltic forum for scientific communication

Sciecom info's web site with the current issue and archive is here.

NEWS: The project is finished, but has had its Nordbib funding extended to include 2010. The report from the original project can be seen here.

Summary

There is a stated need for a widespread interactive information forum on the development of Open Access in the Nordic countries and in Balticum. The previous ScieCom Info (ISSN 1652-3202), was an internationally established small web journal, that for a couple of years fulfilled some of this information need as part of the national project Swedish Resource Centre for Scientific Communication.

This journal has now been remodelled to a forum for Open Access in the Nordic countries and in Balticum. A comprehensive Nordic/Baltic coverage is guaranteed by an editorial board consisting of experienced and well-connected experts from all the Nordic countries and from Balticum.

ScieCom Info - a Nordic-Baltic Forum for Scientific Communication intends to be an Open access journal specifically focusing on Nordic/Baltic issues but also, when relevant, participating in the international discourse. It will cover current developments and projects in scientific communication in all the Nordic countries and in Balticum.

ScieCom Info will address librarians, administrators, funders, learned societies, publishers, policy makers, and other stakeholders. Focus is on Nordic/Baltic readers but an international readership is also expected.

The aims of the new journal ScieCom Info are to:

  • increase the visibility of Nordic and Baltic policies and activities and to promote discussion and dialogue between Nordic and Baltic stakeholders, and to further knowledge exchange.
  • stress the importance of Open Access in the Nordic and Baltic countries and to describe both theoretical and best-practice models for financing, rights management and other fundamental issues.
  • disseminate to both a Nordic/Baltic and an international readership information about successful initiatives and other activities in the Nordic and Baltic countries.
